Content Locking is an age old method since the past few years as more and more affiliate marketing practices entered more and more niches by luring in bloggers and content creators.
Webmasters started content locking the special or premium sections using content locking while bloggers incorporated it instead of WordPress Private Posts in their blogging systems where it was not available.
While in itself, content locking is not such a bad idea as it protects your content from pillagers and offers you royalty on them, it is in a way unethical to get your readers past the lock/gate by making them do any of the following, even before they are given a taste of what they are getting in the end:
- A survey on anything, but usually related to the content wherever available.
- A trial offer or a mixed purchase.
- Downloading and installing any of the available softwares or games.
- Outright payment for unlocking the gate.
The readers are often made to do any of the following before being given access to the content. Most of the times, the content is BAD, and yes that is not a TYPO unfortunately. But i have to say here that there are sites with great quality content under content locking like this where it is quite worthwhile to do any of the offers or surveys or downloads or even pay to get them, but they are a rarity.
IF, you have a great site with great content, and your niche is not delivering much on monetizing through the other means like:
- Direct Advertising
- Text Link Advertisements Sales
- Banner Advertisements Sales
- Advertising Publishing through ad networks like
- Google AdSense
- Chitika
- AdBrite
- Bidvertiser
- Reviewing of Products or Services
- Blank Publicity of products or services
^^^^^ Nice formatting in the multi level bulleting above, right? Particularly impossible in WordPress to do that if you simply use the bulleting system in it. Most of you might know how to do that. It’s simple actually. I found it by playing around. I’ll put up a tutorial in any of the upcoming posts.
So, coming to our original topic, the above mentioned methods are the most common ones. I might have missed many a lot, but i just wanted to give you an idea with that list.
The last one i never do ever on any of my blogs or sites or forums because you, and I definitely, do not want our readers to be disturbed with unfaithful reports those might bring about. The second last one which involves reviewing products and/or services is a good idea as it also gives you a point/idea to write content upon if you are not having any handy. Of course, un-honest reviews will have you losing all your loal readers in a metter of minutes or hours, days at most.
Now, the feature that content locking provides here is that all, and ALL of your visitors are monetized with it before they access the content. of course, those skipping the page and leaving will be a loss, but the content consumers all will have contributed to your earnings an if your content in irresistible, then well, you got your bank run there.
There are many content lockers available out there, and most importantly, the fact remains to choose among the ones that guarantee good results for you and ease of access to your readers. I’ve come across many affiliate networks in my play as an affiliate marketer which continues even today, and i have found very few to be promising. I’ll list the ones that i am familiar with and why i feel that you should check them out.
- CPALead.com – CPALead has been in the affiliate marketing industry as an affiliate network with content locking as its exclusive operation. What better can you get? An affiliate network who not only specializes in affiliate marketing through content locking, but does it solely.
I’ve worked with CPALead since the past 3 years and never had any issue with them. You can see a preview of how the CPALead content locker will be if it is running on www.tonz.net/blog/ in the screenshot below.

- AdvertMarketing.com – AdvertMarketing has been on the web for quite sometime and they are one of the affiliate networks that provide a decent content locker. Apart from content locking, they do provide other affiliate offers to promote including but not limited to Email and ZIP submits, Feebie offers, Trials, Downloads, and what sets them apart from all the other networks that i work with including Commission Junction is the unwavering support.
No matter whether i was earning $0 per day on their network, they worked with me gladly and helped me come up from a failure to a moderately successful affiliate marketer. Bob (of AdvertMarketing) is literally my mentor on affiliate marketing.
There are maybe a hundred or a thousand affiliate networks out there most of whom provide content locking gateways. Feel free to checkout all of them and see which one works best with your site. Always tryout the content locker before you finalize it on your site as once a valuable visitor gets annoyed with a non-working gateway, he’ll never attempt finalist time. Trust me.
I hope and pray that your content locking monetization become a great success and finish off here. Until later. Find more about content locking by searching on Google.
